In the Parkway School District, Early Childhood Special Education is offered through the Special School District of St. Louis County, which provides a variety of programs for children 3 - 5 years old. Preschool-aged children who might need special education services are referred to SSD through the Parkway Play-Based Screening program or First Steps, an early intervention program for children from birth to age 3 years. In addition, parents can make a referral to SSD. After a child is referred to SSD, the child is evaluated by SSD diagnostic staff.
