Parkway Early Childhood Peer Model Program

The Parkway Early Childhood Preschool Peer Model Program is a unique opportunity for preschool-aged children to positively impact the lives of children with developmental delays. While learning together in an Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) classroom, peer models develop empathy, confidence, and school-readiness skills.

PROGRAM BENEFITS
  • Peer Models gain valuable experience in empathy, leadership, and confidence. They model appropriate social and play skills for their peers, which simultaneously reinforces their own school-readiness and social-emotional skills.

  • Once a student is accepted into the Peer Model Program, they may remain enrolled until they are eligible for kindergarten.

  • Families enrolled in the Peer Model Program receive priority enrollment status for the following year in the district's general education, tuition-based preschool program, should they choose to transition.

PEER MODEL PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicants must be residents of the Parkway School District.

  • Open to children ages 3–5 years. Priority is given to children who are 4 and 5 years old.

  • Successful completion of a developmental screening confirms age-appropriate skills in all areas of development. (This step is NOT necessary if the applicant is currently in one of our general education preschool classes. )

  • The program offers Morning Half-Day sessions Monday through Thursday. (Note: Full-day placement is not available with this program) at Parkway Early Childhood North High, West, and Wren Hollow.

  • All families are welcome to apply, but priority is given to lower-income families during the selection process.

FEE: $500 per semester.  No additional tuition.
